215 BC – A temple is built on the Capitoline Hill dedicated to Venus Erycina to commemorate the Roman defeat at Lake Trasimene
1348 – The 1st English order of knighthood is founded (Order of Garter)
1597 – William Shakespeare’s The Merry Wives of Windsor is first performed, with Queen Elizabeth I of England in attendance (only men are permitted to perform)
1635 – Oldest US public institution, Boston Latin School is founded
1789 – President-elect George Washington moves into Franklin House, NY
1900 – 1st know occurrence of the word “hillbillie” appears (NY Journal)
1921 – Charles Paddock runs world record 100 meters in 10.4 seconds (no performance enhancing drugs at that time)
1939 – Boston Red Sox Ted Williams hits his 1st HR
1954 – Hammerin’ Hank Aaron hits the 1st of his 755 homers
1969 – Sirhan Sirhan is sentenced to death for killing Bobby Kennedy

2009 – The gamma ray burst GRB 090423 it’s observed for 10 seconds as the most distant object of any kind and also the oldest known object in the Universe
