1189 – England’s King Richard I the Lionhearted is crowned in Westminster Abby

1826 – USS Vincennes leaves NY harbor to become the first warship to circumnavigate the globe
1928 – Baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb gets his 4,191th & final career hit
1935 – 1st automobile to exceed 300 mph, Sir Malcolm Campbell (301.337 mph)
1939 – Britain declares war on Germany. France follows 6 hours later quickly joined by Australia, NZ, South Africa & Canada
1940 – 1st showing of high-definition color TV takes place
1941 – 1st use of Zyclon-B gas in Auschwitz (on Russian prisoners of war)
