1217 – French prince Louis & English king Henry III sign peace treaty
1229 – The Aragonese army under the command of James I of Aragon disembarks at Santa Ponça, Majorca, with the purpose of conquering the island
1624 – The first submarine is tested (London)
1758 – Charles Messier observes the Crab Nebula & begins cataloging
1878 – Cleopatra’s Needle (obelisk) is installed in London
1910 – The World’s 1st female cop, Alice Stebbins Wells, is appointed (LAPD)
1928 – Katharine Hepburn has her NY stage debut in “Night Hostess”
1933 – Leó Szilárd, while waiting at a red light on Southampton Row in Bloomsbury, conceives the idea of the nuclear chain reaction
1940 – 4 teens, following their dog down a hole near Lascaux France discover 17,000-year-old drawings now known as Lascaux Cave Paintings (definitely worth a look friend)
1958 – The US Supreme Court orders Little Rock Arkansas high school to integrate
1966 – The “Monkees” premieres on NBC-TV
1970 – US LSD professor Timothy Leary escapes from a California jail
1983 – Albert Rizzo treads water at sea for 108 hours 9 minutes!
1986 – 240.49 million shares are traded on the NY Stock Exchange
1990 – US, England, France, USSR, East & West Germanys sign agreements allowing the two Germanys to merge
2001 – Article V of the NATO agreement is invoked for only the second time (the other being in Bosnia) in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks against the United States of America
2003 – In Fallujah, US forces mistakenly shoot and kill eight Iraqi police officers
2009 – The 9-12 Project organizes multiple marches and demonstrations across the US to protest government spending
2012 – Apple unveils its iPhone 5 and iOS 6
